Starlight has been described as aggressive and stubborn as a young mare. While the aggressive-ness has mostly worn off over the years, the stubborn-ness has stayed: she needs to be asked - nicely - to do something. She's excelled in competition as long as she is let alone to do her own thing - she hates too much interference, and will plainly stop working if she finds that her rider annoys her. 
She's a powerful horse, almost a little too stocky and muscular for a mare, but she's a true powerhouse. Her gaits are nicely uphill and energetic and her jumping is very powerful; only her bascule is lacking a little, making her style look not as effortless as better stylists, but actually more impressive, a display of her strenghth.
