Description

I haven't gotten better at digitally colouring sketches, but if I'm honest.. I was a little lazy this time. xD Also I don't really like all this digital stuff. I liek my sketches rough and nice. xD
Anyway, meet.. Bernhelm. Idek. He's from, uh, our Lord of the Rings RP - originally a side character but he's grown on me. You know how it is. it just happens. Add a few inside jokes with your fellow writers and there you go, you got yerself a new favourite! ♥
And so this fellow comes to WTS as well. I have no idea when or how or whatever his proper introduction will be, but until it happens, have a ref. I like to tease.
(also I've grown so fond of his name, my brain refused to call him anything else, so him and his wife will be "the couple with the strange names")

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Bernhelm Kelley
Age: 47
Birthday: September 6th, 1969
Gender: male
Height: 1,94m
Eye colour: hazel
Hair colour: blonde (some grey’s showing up, but don’t tell him)
Family: Roswyn Kelley (wife), Berna (foster daughter), Andrew O’Callaghan (great-nephew)
Marital status: married to Rosy ♥
Background: Bernhelm was born in a yet-unidentified town in Western Ireland - into a family of nothing but farmers, so of course he followed in his father's (and grandfather's, and great-grandfather's...) footsteps. It might seem like he was forced into the profession by his heritage, but that really wasn't the case. He's a farmer with heart and soul.
He found Jesus when he was 31. His father had died several weeks ago, very unexpectedly, but not necessarily surprising for a almost-70-year-old with a nasty smoking habit. Anyway, the man left his only son (he's got several sisters though) a not necessarily well-running farm that's been declining ever since. Bernhelm fell into quite a hole, didn't really see his life purpose anymore - until he ended up on a church bench after sunday service and the pastor came up to him and asked if he was alright. Anyway, his life has made an U-turn that day; and it was also then that he met Rosy. She was from Dublin. But their story will be told later. :eyes:
At some point, I guess, they were so close to complete bankruptcy, they decided to sell the land and moved on with their lives. And it's always the same in this universe, they ended up under the wings of Anne Richter on the Waving Tree. (Sorry this is kinda sketchy, but I want to write these stories properly, so no spoilers here -u-)
Character: Bernhelm is a master in keeping himself and his emotions on an even keel. He’s calm and grounded – I’m pretty sure it’s physically and mentally impossible for him to be angry. He’s a warm-hearted guy who quickly takes a shine to people he meets.
He might seem a little withdrawn, that is because he reflects and thinks a lot and these processes take place deep inside of him. Being the centre of attention is nothing for him; he prefers to stay on the sideline and observe things. But he’s an incredibly good-hearted, generous, warm person who’ll help anyone who might seem in want of comfort.
Due to his reflexive nature, he gets kind of sad rather often. He dwells on the past and misses things that were… he has difficulties with looking forward into the future. He’d rather have everything around him stay the same forever. Change is an awful thing for him, which stresses him a lot and makes him really nervous.
His faith is really important to him; he's a very energetic and devoted Christian. What drives him most is 1 John 4:7: Let us love one another, for love is from God. He's really keen on showing everybody God's love. His problem is; he really isn't saddle-fast in the scripture. He can't deal with conversational partners who are... well, openly critical of everything. He gets really nervous and frustrated when he doesn't know the verses he needs or where he can find them.
He loves to see things grow. He loves the earth, the soil and the fruit it brings forth – the countryside will always have a special place in his heart. All the more he’s devastated by the fact that, while his land is rich and fertile, his own body is not. Finding out that he wouldn’t ever be a father… he still describes that as the worst moment of his entire life. He’s since learned, or had to learn, to cope with it. While she’s not his daughter by blood, Berna does a pretty good job filling this gap. The girl knows that Bernhelm isn’t her real dad, but he’s as good as any - and she’s been named for him, so ofc he be the bees knees!
Also, the fellow might not be so book-smart, he doesn't express himself so eloquently, but he knows extremely much in his area of expertise, that is, agriculture. He doesn't think too quickly, but if he's given enough time he's really good at joining the dots and thinking logically.
He's super tall and broad; and he's got the deepest voice ever. (think Harry Rowohlt ♥)
Likes: his family, agriculture, good soil, rain (it's good for the plants okay?), nature, painting (he does these expressive messy landscape studies in oil and acrylics and stuff. He's also okay with aquarelles.) a good book, solitude, travelling, hiking.
Dislikes: that stressful time when things are rushing past and you hurry from thing to thing and there's no time to just stop dead, catch your breath and pray properly. Also, not being able to express exactly what he's thinking. Misunderstandings. Leaving things unsaid.
Preferred discipline: Driving, pleasure riding
Future occupation on WTS: He cares for the gardens, pastures and fields. Hay-making and stuff, all while he's reluctantly searching for a job. And learning a new language. Whose idea was that??
Horses: Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme - his carriage horses (you've already met them, just sayin') plus maybe a feisty white mare named Astrid, but I'm not so sure about that yet.
Some Songs.
Original USA Gospel Choir - Amazing Grace
Far from the Madding Crowd - Let No Man Steal Your Thyme (I always imagine him and Rosy singing that for Berna.)
Paddy Reilly - Star of the County Down (!)
Enya - Smaointe
Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So there's this. He's still kind of new so I haven't yet had the opportunity to develop his "modern" version more... so I'll probably change and add a lot.
In the meantime, I hope you like him? :D
Or, like, go and check his pinterest board.
